How to copy a TikTok video link

Updated on October 18, 2026

To download a video, the site needs the link to that video. The profile link of whoever posted it won’t work, and neither will the account name. The quickest way is to open the video in the TikTok app and use the Share button, which has a Copy link option.

On your phone: iPhone or Android

  1. Open the video. Tap the video or photo post you want until it fills the screen. The link only comes out right with the video open.
  2. Tap Share. It’s the arrow in the column of icons on the right, below the heart and the comment bubble.
  3. Tap Copy link. It’s in the panel that opens, among the apps to share with. The app shows a short notice that the link was copied.
  4. Go back to the site and tap Paste. The search starts on its own. The first time, your phone may ask for permission to paste: tap Allow or Paste.

If your browser won’t let the site read what you copied, press and hold the link field and choose Paste from the menu that appears. Then tap Download.

On a computer

On tiktok.com, open the video: the address in the browser bar becomes the video’s address. Copy it with Ctrl+C on Windows or Cmd+C on a Mac. The site’s Share button also has Copy link.

Then paste it into the box with Ctrl+V (or Cmd+V) and click Download.

What the link looks likeWhat it is
vm.tiktok.com/ or vt.tiktok.com/ and a codeThe short link the app copies. It works.
tiktok.com/@profile/video/ and a numberA video. It works.
tiktok.com/@profile/photo/ and a numberA photo post. It works.
tiktok.com/@profile and nothing elseThe profile. It won’t work: open a video before copying.
tiktok.com/music/A sound page. Not supported: paste a video link.
tiktok.com/@profile/liveA LIVE. Not supported.

The bit TikTok adds at the end, after the question mark, doesn’t get in the way. You don’t need to delete anything if the link came with some text either: the site finds the link inside the text.

When it still doesn’t work

  • The screen says the link doesn’t point to a video. You most likely copied the account page (the profile), not a video. Go back to TikTok, open the video and copy its link.
  • The screen says it’s still the same link. Your phone still has the old link copied. Copy again, from the right video.
  • The screen says there’s no link copied. Copy link didn’t go through, or you copied something else. Repeat step 3 and wait for the notice that the link was copied.
  • The video is from a private account. If the profile asks you to follow before showing videos, or the video only opens after you log in, it can’t be downloaded here. The site only works with public videos.

With the right link in the box, the Your files list shows a button for each file. The next steps are on the page to download TikTok videos.
