How to transcribe a TikTok video in 3 steps

  1. Copy the link

In TikTok, open the video, tap Share (the arrow), then Copy link.

  2. Paste and tap Transcribe

Tap Paste, or paste the link into the field, then tap Transcribe. The cost shows under the button.

  3. Copy or download

Use Copy text or download the SRT captions. VTT and TXT are under Other formats.

The AI detects the spoken language on its own and shows which one it found, right above the text. If it gets it wrong, as can happen when a video opens with music or a phrase in another language, tap Other language and pick Portuguese, English or Spanish.

A short video is ready in about 10 seconds, and a 3-minute one takes close to a minute. Transcription runs on our own server, one at a time: at peak hours there may be a short queue, and the screen shows your place. If you can’t find the share button, see how to copy a TikTok link.

What you get

  • Plain text, with punctuation. The first lines show up, and the rest is under See full text. Right above are the detected language and the word count.
  • SRT and VTT captions, with the timing of each line. SRT works in video editors like CapCut; VTT, in web players.
  • TXT, the same text as a file, to open in any editor.

Under the text, a line shows how much of your quota you’ve used and when it resets. If you also want the video file, Download this video, at the end of the transcript, brings up the file list right there, with the MP4 without the app’s watermark.

It counts transcriptions, not minutes of audio: a 20-second video and a 3-minute one count the same. Asking for the same video in the same language again costs nothing, and neither does a failed attempt. Downloading videos, photos and audio stays available when the quota runs out.

Why there’s a limit: transcription runs on our own server, one at a time, and that server also delivers the downloads. The limit every 15 minutes is what keeps transcription fast and open to everyone.

How transcription works

To transcribe, the site uses only the video’s audio. That audio goes through a speech recognition AI that runs on our own server, Whisper, and comes back in segments, each with the moment it starts and ends. With those timings, the site builds the SRT and the VTT. At peak hours, if our server’s queue is full, a backup service does the transcription.

The AI listens but doesn’t see: text the creator typed over the video is left out. With one person speaking clearly, there are few mistakes. Accuracy drops with loud music over the speech, two voices at once, slang and silent stretches, where the AI sometimes writes sentences nobody said.

What to do with the text

  • Captions on your video. Import the SRT into CapCut or another editor, adjust the style and export the video with the captions on the image. Captions help people watching without sound and people with hearing loss.
  • Script. Transcribe one of your videos that did well and use the text as the base for the next one.
  • Study and quotes. Copy a passage from a class or a tip and keep it in your notes, with the speaker’s name.

Privacy

The video isn’t kept: the site uses only the audio, transcribes it and deletes the temporary file. The text of a public video may be cached for up to 7 days, identified only by the video’s code, with no IP address or anything about you. Only when our server is full or down does a backup service receive the audio, never your IP address. The result never becomes a public page and doesn’t show up on Google. More in the privacy policy.

Rights over the content

Transcribing to study, understand a video or keep a reference is personal use. To publish an excerpt, credit the speaker and link the video. Publishing the full transcript, or presenting someone’s words as yours, needs the creator’s permission. Rights holders can ask us to block a video on the content removal page, with a reply within 2 business days.

Frequently asked questions

Is it free? Do I need an account?

It’s free and needs no sign-up or TikTok login. It works for videos up to 3 min long, with up to 4 transcriptions every 15 minutes. Ads keep the site running.

What's the longest video I can transcribe?

3 minutes, measured down to fractions of a second. A longer video is turned down before anything starts, and it doesn’t use any of your quota.

How many videos can I transcribe?

Up to 4 every 15 minutes, per connection. After that window it frees up again, and there’s no daily cap. Asking for the same video in the same language again doesn’t use quota, and neither does a failed attempt.

How is this different from TikTok's auto captions?

Auto captions only show inside the app, when the creator leaves them on. Here you take the text out: copy it, paste it anywhere or download it as an SRT, VTT or TXT file.

Does it work for videos in other languages?

Yes. The AI detects the spoken language. If it gets it wrong, tap Other language, right above the text, and pick Portuguese, English or Spanish: the first switch per video each day is free. The text comes out in the spoken language, without translation.

Does it pick up text written on the screen?

No. The AI only listens to the audio. Text stickers, burned-in captions and the description are left out. A video with only music and on-screen text comes out empty, or with just the song lyrics.

What about photo posts?

Photo posts have no speech, only background music. If the song has lyrics, the AI transcribes the lyrics; without lyrics, the screen says no speech was found, and the attempt doesn’t use quota.

Can I transcribe a video from a private account?

No. Only public videos. A private, friends-only or deleted video shows a notice and doesn’t use quota.

Why does the transcript have wrong words?

Loud music, people talking over each other, slang and brand names confuse the AI. If the detected language is wrong, Other language redoes the text in the right one. The guide how to transcribe a TikTok video has tips for better accuracy.

Do you keep the video or the text?

Not the video. The text of a public video may be cached for up to 7 days, identified only by the video’s code, with nothing about you. That’s why asking for the same video in the same language again is instant.

Can I publish the transcript of someone else's video?

A short excerpt, to comment on or study, with the creator’s name and the video link, is a quote. The full text, or presenting someone’s words as yours, needs permission. Rights holders can ask us to block a video on the content removal page.
